The West Bath Historical Society is sharing the proceeds of its Christmas-season charity with the Bath Area Food Bank.

“We are pleased to be able to offer this donation, as part of our commitment to the local community,” said Avery Meyers, Historical Society president, presenting a $200 check to Kimberly Gates, the food bank’s director of public relations.

Gates said the $200 would purchase $1,600 in food from Good Shepherd Food Bank

The Christmas service, hosted for more than a dozen years by the West Bath Historical Society, was held Dec. 13 at the historic Old West Bath Meeting House on Berry’s Mill Road.

The Rev. Janet Leighninger conducted the ecumenical service. Carols were sung, accompanied by Bill Gilman on the old pump organ, while scriptures and poems, including a Buddhist prayer for peace, were read by community members.

The Bath Area Food Bank serves Bath, West Bath, Phippsburg, Woolwich, Georgetown and Arrowsic. Donations can be sent to Bath Area Food Bank, P.O. Box 65, Bath, ME 04530.
