Thursday, Jan. 31: Royal River Chorus holds an Open House at the American Legion Hall, 17 Dunn St. in Westbrook (next to Riverbank Park). Royal River Chorus is part of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of women singers. Members share a love for singing a cappella music in the barbershop style. Any woman of average singing ability, with or without vocal training, will find a part that fits her voice range with the help of the chorus’ musical leaders and Master Director Wendi McPike.

Friday, Feb. 1: All Windham children who will be 5 years old by Oct. 15 are eligible to begin school this September. Kindergarten student screening will take place on April 11 and April 12. Starting Friday, Feb. 1, online kindergarten registration will be available by visiting www.RSU14.org and clicking on “Schools” and then “Windham Primary School.” Complete the online registration forms and schedule an appointment for the April 2013 dates. If you do not have access to the on-line registration site or have any questions concerning the online registration process, call 892-1840, option 5, between 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. starting Feb. 1.

Saturday, Feb. 2: The Standish Sno-Seekers host the annual Winterfest starting at 9 a.m. at Johnson Field on Route 35 in Standish. The event features the popular Poker Rally in which snowmobilers travel 30 to 40 miles of groomed trail in Standish in search of four stations where participants pick up playing cards. $5 per hand. There is no limit on the amount of cards a team can purchase. Registration is at 9 a.m. Also, the snack shack will be open at Johnson Field for hot drinks and food. Tuesday, Feb. 5: The Schoolhouse Arts Center’s annual meeting will be held to report on the Schoolhouse activities of 2012, discuss goals for 2013, and elect a Board of Directors for the year ahead. Wednesday, Feb. 6: The 6th Annual Cribbage Tournament is being held at Windham-Gorham Rod & Gun Club, 8 Tow Path Road, Gorham. The event is sponsored by Shaw’s supermarkets and benefits the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Entry is $13 to play seven games. Trophies for first, second and third places with gift certificate. Monica Wood, bestselling Maine author, will speak of her writing and autograph books for purchase at the Raymond Village Library. Monica’s gripping memoir, “When We Were the Kennedys,” was a NEIBA bestseller and an Oprah’s 2012 Summer Reading pick as well as receiving other awards. Wood is also the author of four works of fiction, most recently “Any Bitter Thing,” which spent 21 weeks on the American Booksellers Association’s extended bestseller list and was named a Books Sense Top Ten Pick. The public is invited and asked to pre-register by signing up at the Raymond Village Library or calling the library at 655-4283 to have their name added, as space is limited. Thursday, Feb. 7: Josh Pahigian, author of “Strangers on the Beach,” will talk about his work at the North Gorham Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. The Maine writer’s debut mystery plays out on the sand and streets of Old Orchard Beach. Saturday, Feb. 9: Maple Syrup enthusiast? Do you tap a few trees or wish you knew how? The Windham Council of the Knights of Columbus holds a baked haddock dinner from 5-6 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Route 302, North Windham. Adults are $8. Children 12 and under are $4. The Cabin Fever Sale at the New Gloucester Public Library runs 8 a.m. to noon and offers great bargains on a large selection of gently used books (50 cents for hardbacks and 25 cents for paperbacks), games, puzzles and audio-visual items.
