Pahigian to speak
Josh Pahigian, author of “Strangers on the Beach,” will talk about his work at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, at North Gorham Public Library, 2 Standish Neck Road.

Free snowshoe trek
Portland Water District is hosting a guided, full-moon snowshoe hike at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, along the trails of the Sebago Lake Land Reserve at the Sebago Lake Ecology Center, intersection of routes 237 and 35 in Standish.
Participants should bring their own snowshoes and wear warm clothing. Participants also are encouraged to take a flashlight or headlamp and water. All skill levels are welcomed on this 11?2- to 2-hour hike over relatively even trails.

Winter sand available
The town of Gorham allows its residents two, 5-gallon buckets of winter sand per snowstorm for use on their property. Some salt is mixed in with the sand.
The public winter sand pile is located in front of the light blue, metal-sided building on Public Works Drive (off Huston Road) next to the silver bullet recycling containers. The sand is available at anytime. For more information, call the Public Works Department at 892-9062.
Lord earns degree
Adam Lord of Gorham has received an MS degree in nuclear engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Ga.
Rosenblatt on dean’s list
Adrienne Rosenblatt of Gorham has been named to the dean’s list for scholarship excellence in the fall semester in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
U.S. taxpayer debt
The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Jan. 17 that the U.S. public debt was $16,432,631,489,854.70.
Lucas Lane, 4, hugs the first snowman he has made at his new home in Gorham. He is the son of Ryan and Cindy Lane. Lucas is grandson of American Journal cartoonist Dale Leroux.
