RENO, Nev. – Dajuan Summers scored 29 points and the Maine Red Claws used a third-quarter rally for a 131-124 win over the Bakersfield Jam in the NBA D-League Showcase on Wednesday.
Summers scored 19 points in the second half.
Leading 69-68 at halftime, the Red Claws gave up the lead when Damion James put in a layup just over a minute into the third quarter.
However, Chamberlain Oguchi, who closed the first half with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, made two free throws after being fouled on Maine’s next possession for a 71-70 lead.
The Red Claws would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way, but it wasn’t until Micah Downs hit a 3-pointer at 8:13 to make it 83-79 that Maine was able to distance itself from the Jam.
Shelvin Mack, who rejoined the team after clearing NBA waivers prior to the tipoff, made a layup and a jumper, and Downs added a jumper during the 9-0 run that followed and Maine held a comfortable lead of 89-79.
Bakersfield cut the gap to 126-122 with 1:07 left, but Summers sank a field goal, and Maine made three free throws to put it away.
Mack was signed by the Washington Wizards on Dec. 25 and appeared in eight games for the NBA team after playing in 64 games last season.
Downs finished with 26 points, Mack added 24 and Oguchi had 20 points.
