BRUNSWICK
A Brunswick police officer was assaulted this morning while responding to a trespass complaint on McLellan Street.
Police were called to a McLellan Street home at 4:08 a.m. by a woman who wanted police to remove a friend of the 17-year-old male who ended up allegedly assaulting the officer.
While at the scene, the 17-year-old male became unruly and punched officer Tom Stanton in the face, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said this morning.
The teen was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in protective custody. Hagan said this morning the teen was on probation and his probation officer had put a probation hold on him.
Hagan said police planned to arrest the teen at the hospital this morning and charge him with assault on a police officer.
Stanton was treated for a face laceration and possible broken nose at Mid Coast Hospital, Hagan said, and has been released.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
