Our faltering society

I sometimes tire of having to plead the case that John Adams set forth and I quote, “This constitution is made for a moral society only.”

Sadly, our faltering Republic still needs to hear it. There are only two kinds of people in the world; God-lovers and God-haters. My heart aches for all the fallen men and women who gave their last drop of courage for such a sorry lot that have been a part of weakening, defaming, stealing and lying at all levels; from the working class on up to our elected officials.

You and I can help or harm the common good of our neighborhood, town or state. So we as a people effect harmful changes to our society by our wicked and foolish choices. But multiply that exponentially by way of those in positions of authority who can affect our lives and diminish the joy that this poor Republic was capable of only a generation ago.

This is truly a sin-stained society who have allowed and continue to pervert God’s laws. We have managed in a wholesale way, to promote abortion so as to upset the ratio of workers that could contribute to Social Security, an unforeseen atrocity that is currently helping to overstress one of our mainstay retirement engines. How much more does our Heavenly Father grieve over that!

The killing of innocent babies was very much in vogue during the Roman Empire and you can bet that greased the skids for the fall. Since 1953 [Roe vs. Wade] the death count from abortions is 54,559,615. Folks, we are greasing those skids for our own fall.

One parting thing I would hope you would consider; the Bible says…”it is appointed for man to die once and after that comes the judgment.” Our life is a preparation for eternity. Are we building the house that we want stay in for that eternity? God knows and I think you will also if you seek him. May God bless us and the crumbling Republic.

Help for ?the helpers

There is a good chance that if you are not a caregiver yourself, that you know someone else who is. In the United States, approximately 43.5 million adults provide what is called “unpaid” care to someone age 50 or older. Breaking that number down further, 19 percent of all adults are responsible for daily caregiving tasks such as meal preparation, travel to/from appointments and cleaning for an older dependent or loved one.

When one considers how many caregivers in America have jobs, other demanding responsibilities and/or children of their own, one can start to imagine how stressful their lives can be.

If you know someone who is a caregiver, there are ways to help. A lot of caregivers may be unaware that there are resources available that can provide some relief. For example, the Department of Health and Human Resources’ Eldercare Locator is a great way to get started and they are just a phone call away at 1-800-677-1116. The AARP Caregiving Resource Center at www.aarp.org/caregivers is also a site that offers a wide range of services and supports for both caregivers and for those of us who might wish to help.

If you’ve ever taken care of an older parent or loved one, you know how much it can mean to have a break and some free time for yourself. Helping out a caregiver in 2013 would be a great resolution for the New Year.
