Yo-Yo Temperatures

Wow the thermometer is doing the opposite of what one would expect this year. This weekend, temperatures are forecasted to rise to a balmy 41 degrees, with plenty of rain. Bad news for those skiing enthusiasts but I am sure we have not seen the last of the arctic blasts this year.

When the frigid air returns you might find yourself in need of some sand. Naples public works has a sand and salt mixture available for public use at its shed right behind the Naples Fire Department. Bring a couple of buckets and spread it liberally on all that rain that just might freeze to avoid an injury!

Security Tightened

It is a shame that it has come to this, but security has definitely been tightened in our schools following the infamous Newtown incident. I, for one, was happy to see that the door was locked at Songo Locks School last week, and that I was required to ring a buzzer and be viewed on closed circuit TV before I was admitted.

The local schools have in recent years practiced lockdowns and evacuations, which were a much-needed practice, obviously. There are plans in the works for all local schools to have the buzzer technology. Extra lockdown drills will also be added to the calendar for the new year. I, as I am sure many local parents are, am grateful for the attention paid to this matter by SAD 61.
