BRUNSWICK— Wild Oats Bakery and Café recently made a $750 gift to Curtis Memorial Library, raised during a Community Awareness Day in celebration of its 20th year in business.
The café donated a percentage of all sales from Sept. 30. Library staff were in the café that day to greet customers and sign up new library card holders during National Library Card Sign Up Month.
“Wild Oats has always been supportive of the library and its efforts in the community. We intend to put the donation toward the purchase of a much-needed new digital microfilm reader,” said Library Director Liz Doucett.
The library also received a $3,000 grant from the Margaret E. Burnham Charitable Trust of Portland to expand its graphic novel collection.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
