TURNER — Matt Munster hit the winning shot with five seconds remaining as the Morse High School boys basketball team slipped past Leavitt 39- 38 in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B action on Thursday.

Munster finished with 10 points, with Kevin McKellar pacing the 2-3 Shipbuilders with 11 points.

Leavitt’s ( 2- 3) Isaiah Calder had 10 points and Andrew Middleton nine.

Morse led 8-4 after a quarter, 15-12 at the half and 25- 24 through 24 minutes.

Morse is slated to host Maine Central Institute this upcoming Thursday at 7 p.m.

The host Wildcats (6-0) jumped out early and cruised in a Western Maine Conference contest at Kittery.

“They pressured us early, but they are just so big, and we just couldn’t get our shots off, and when we did we didn’t make them,” said Freeport coach Matt Cook, whose squad is 1-4 and visits Yarmouth on Jan. 3.

York posted quarter leads of 22-3, 46-5 and 58-8. Luke Claslin had 15 points, Hayden Webster and Aaron Todd 14 each, and Zach Leal 13 to lead the Wildcats.

Landon Easler picked up eight points for Freeport.

At Bath, the visiting Hornets jumped out to a 17-9 lead and steadily pulled away from there in KVAC Class B play.

Leavitt (5-0) led 36-23 at the break and 49-31 through three quarters.

Kristen Anderson popped for 31 points to lead Leavitt. She nailed six 3-pointers, while Meagan Down chipped in 10 points and Chantel Eells nine.

Signe Ostergaard led the charge for Morse (2-3 and slated to visit MCI this upcoming Thursday) with 11 points, while Megan Hixon, Emma Harrington and Sadia Crosby each had eight.
