BOWDOINHAM
The Merrymeeting Arts Center has announced that as part of the second Ice and Smelt Festival scheduled for February in Bowdoinham, there will once again be a Best Beard Contest so interested participants may want to start growing facial hair now.
Several Bowdoinham residents and some members of the Maine Facial Hair Club participated in the beard contest held during the 2012 festival. The contest consists of nine categories for entries to choose from.
The festival is Feb. 2 from 1 p.m. to dark. There will also be art activities, an art exhibit, archery, winter games, puppet show, demonstrations, a bonfire, parade, soup supper and Chinese Sky Lantern launching. There will be prizes in several of the activities. There may also be a fishing contest and ice activities.
The 2013 festival is a fundraiser for the Merrymeeting Arts Center. There will be a $5 charge to participate in activities, including the Best Beard Contest. Watch for festival announcements on Facebook or check the website at www.merrymeetingartscenter.org. For more information or to volunteer, contact Lee at 370-5002 or Peggy at 666-3426 or email them at merrymeetingartscenter@gmail.com.
