Entertainment continues nightly in Freeport, wrapping up with family New Year’s Eve festivities – including fireworks.

Freeport’s 2012 Sparkle Weekend might be a memory, but there is still plenty of holiday celebration in Freeport this month, with much of it taking place on the campus of L.L. Bean.

The company’s Northern Lights event continues with entertainment and a nightly musical light show. Every Sunday through Dec. 23, between 1-3 p.m. in L.L. Bean’s Discovery Park, the Odd Company will present a short, comedic version of the Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol.”

New this year, and continuing each night until New Year’s Eve, is L.L. Bean’s Musical Light Show. The show features a display of thousands of LED lights adorning a 60-foot Christmas tree in the center of L.L. Bean’s Discovery Park. At the beginning of each hour, the Christmas tree, along with all the trees in the park and surrounding buildings, comes alive with a dance of light and special effects choreographed to holiday music. The show begins at 5 p.m. nightly and ends at 10 p.m.

L.L. Bean will close out 2012, which was also the company’s its 100th anniversary year, and ring in the New Year in festive fashion on Monday, Dec. 31, with concerts, kids’ crafts and more.

Special guests include Grammy Award nominee Elizabeth Mitchell, who has been recording and performing music for children and families since 1998. Her most recent release is an album called “Little Seed: Songs for Children by Woody Guthrie.” The album, released this year as part of the celebration of the 100th birthday of Woody Guthrie, was nominated for a 2012 Grammy award for Best Children’s record earlier this month.

Also entertaining will be Norman Ng, performing his own brand of magic; and the perennial favorite Maine entertainer, Rick Charette.

All of the events are free, and begin at 11 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. with a fireworks display and hot-cocoa toast.

Popular children’s entertainer Rick Charette will be performing at L.L. Bean in Freeport on Dec. 31.
