Neil Pheles of Cross Excavation & Trucking uses a hose to tamp down the dust and debris kicked up by his crew’s demolition of a house at 56 South St. in Biddeford Thursday. The city bought the uninhabited home with an eye toward tearing it down. Public Works employee Ray Parent said demolition is also planned for the house next door, at 58 South St., for similar reasons ”“ decay and blight. The two houses sit on the same lot, with the latter formerly occupied by Rory Holland, who in 2010 was convicted of murdering Derek and Gage Greene in the street outside his home. We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
