Final days for Festival of Trees
The Festival of Trees, at the Westbrook Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St., winds up this week. On Thursday, a community dinner is scheduled at noon. On Friday, the Tips For Charity luncheon, featuring Doc Stockwell on the piano, runs from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Soprano Heather Connolly sings at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, there is a mystery gift tree from 10 a.m.-noon.

New date ?for tree lighting
Westbrook’s tree-lighting ceremony, postponed last Sunday, is now scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 9, starting at 4:30 p.m., at Riverbank Park.
At 4:30, the movie, “Frosty the Snowman,” will be shown. At 5, the Drouin Dance Center Dancers will perform. At 5:10 p.m., Santa Claus arrives. The tree lighting is at 5:30.
Westbrook students in concerts
Students in the Westbrook School District are presenting three winter concerts and a holiday concert this month.
Winter concerts by the fifth and sixth grades are at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, in the Westbrook Performing Arts Center; seventh and eighth grades, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, Westbrook, Performing Arts Center; and high school, 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 20.
Westbrook High School students also will present the Holiday Jazz Concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.
Live nativity ?at Trinity
Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St., Westbrook, will present a live nativity on the church lawn every evening from Friday, Dec. 14, to Monday, Dec. 24, weather permitting, from 5-7.
Costumes for the nativity were designed by Elsie Reese, the stable was created by Ted Deschambeault and Ralph Maxwell, and Hillary Knight of “The Barnyard” at Smiling Hill Farm will tend the live animals. Friends and members of the congregation will be the participants.
Roman soldiers will lead visitors to the Bethlehem Cafe? in the fellowship hall, where they will be served cocoa and cookies. Parking is behind the church off School Street.

Frog and Turtle hosting Santa
Santa Claus will be at the Frog and Turtle, 3 Bridge St., from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.
The fourth annual visit for Santa features cookies and doughnuts, Christmas caroling, a gift for every child, and prints of youur photos available while you wait.
Party at library
The Friends of Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., is hosting its annual holiday open house 3-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13.
Caroling, music by Chopin Club, snacks and holiday cheer will be abundant. The public is invited.
Christmas cat show
A cat club, Yankee Cats, is sponsoring a two-day Christmas cat show on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15 and 16, at the Maine State Armory, 120 Stroudwater St., Westbrook.
The show features many different breeds of cats and unusual cat items, cat trees and more.
Show hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on that Saturday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on that Sunday.
Admission is $5; $4, seniors and students ; and free, children under 12 and active military. $1 off with donation of cat food to benefit the shelters.

The Knights of Columbus, Council No. 2219 of Westbrook, purchased and refurbished this trailer for Boys Scout Troup 87 of St. Anthony Parish for its projects and camping trips. The Knights added new paneling inside and outside, strengthened the frame and added new tires. Anthony DiRenzo, 67, of Westbrook gives a thumbs up in September at the motor speedway in Loudon, N.H. His friend Diana Pelosi said he participated in a 12-lap shootout and finished second out of 12. Pelosi said he went up to 130 mph.
