Gorham PD receives OUI grant
Sgt. Benjamin Moreland of Gorham Police Department announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a $9,863 grant to fund enforcement of operating under the influence laws.
The grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety is for the 2013 Maine Drive Sober Campaign that runs through Sept. 6.
“The money awarded pays for the overtime cost of police officers who patrol on roads that have been identified as being places where OUI related crashes and arrests occur most often,” Moreland said in a statement.
Moreland said Gorham Police Department has participated in the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety grants “for many years and consistently met goals set.
Historical society music program
Christmas music will be featured when Gorham Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, in the Gorham Savings Bank Operation Center on Gray Road (Route 202).
Ecumenical service reminder
The Gorham Ecumenical Council is sponsoring a Christmas season service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Cressey Road United Methodist Church, 81 Cressey Road.
The service offers comfort and rest to those who do not feel like celebrating. Light refreshments will be served.
Local firm wins development loan
Maine Technology Institute in Brunswick has granted a $218,834 development loan to Pika Energy of Gorham that builds wind turbine systems for residential use.

U.S. taxpayer debt
The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Nov. 30 that the U.S. public debt was $16,369,548,799,604.93.
