There was a change in leadership within the City Council on Wednesday night.
Shortly after councilors were sworn in for their new terms, Councilor Steve Brackett nominated then-incumbent David Sinclair (Ward 6) to be chairman. Then Mary Eosco nominated senior Ward 4 Councilor Bernard Wyman, and after a 5-4 vote, Wyman ascended to the center table. Wyman, who has served 18 years on the council, is a former chairman.
Another close vote followed. Ward 5 Councilor Eosco, by a 5-4 decision over Sean Paulhus, became vice chairwoman. Paulhus, who represents Ward 2, was the incumbent vice chairman.
Following the elections, William Bliss of the United Church of Christ delivered a brief prayer for the council.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
