WOOLWICH — The Woolwich Central School boys basketball team opened its season with two victories.
The first game was Tuesday at Appleton with Woolwich prevailing 61-55, posting quarterly leads of 21-6, 40-20 and 50-35.
Returning starter Dakota Freeman racked up 27 firsthalf points to lead the Wildcats. Unfortunately, early in the third frame Freeman went down with an ankle injury and Appleton took advantage.
Freeman wound up with 39 points, while Evan Parsons had nine and Tucker Banger six.
Appleton’s Owen Hilt and Morgan Ford each had 14 points.
On Wednesday, Woolwich visited Jefferson and won 70- 27 with period leads of 20-8, 39-15 and 56-23.
Freeman led with 29 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Parsons chipped in with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Trevor Santiago grabbed 11 boards and Max Reed added five assists and five steals.
