BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Junior High ‘A’ ice hockey team opened its season Sunday against Kennebunk and lost 4-3.
At the end of two periods, Kennebunk led 3-0.
Brunswick got on the board with a power-play goal by Cameron Niven, assisted by Jack St. Pierre.
Later in the third, Niven scored again, cutting Kennebunk’s lead to one. With less than two minutes in the game Brunswick’s Colleen McKearney tied the game on a feed from Andrew Eno.
Kennebunk managed to capitalize on a breakaway and scored the winning goal with less than a minute left in the match.
Brunswick received standout defensive action from Alex Labbe, Beth Labbe, Jack Coray and Quinn Solberg, while Kyle Hartford, Jared Hummer, Evan Poissonnier, Ryan Olson, Jacob Doring and Harrison Johnson were offensive threats.
Brunswick coach, Dwayne Palmer said, “The team worked hard, played a great game and didn’t give up when we were trailing by three goals. We were able to capitalize on two of our three power plays, while not experiencing any penalties.”
In net for Brunswick was Garrett Woodruff.
Brunswick is back in action this upcoming Sunday at Lewiston.
