BRUNSWICK
Dignitaries today dipped shovels into the soil at Ordnance Drive, the eventual site of the Maine Army National Guard Reserve Center.
Funding for the $23 million project comes from the U.S. Army. When finished in 2014, the center will support the missions of the Maine National Guard’s 133rd Engineer Battalion and other units, according to Army spokesmen.
JCN Construction, based in Manchester, N.H., and with a Brunswick Landing satellite office at 25 Orion St., has been awarded the project contract. When built, the facility will feature solar panels for electricity, a parking shelter and a vegetated roof system to reduce and mitigate storm water runoff.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
