DRESDEN
Firefighters were able to quickly control smoldering within a chimney at 60 Middle Road this morning, Capt. Gorham Lilley said.
Lilley said crews were called to Peter Elvin’s two-story home at 8:10 a.m. They cleared the scene at 9:51, but had the fire out much sooner than that, Lilley said.
A wood stove caused the chimney fire, he said.
“It was just smoldering,” Lilley said. “We had to take the stovepipe apart and make sure there was nothing going in there.”
Elvin, who was not injured, called in the fire quickly after hearing a roaring in his chimney, Lilley said.
Crews from Richmond and Wiscasset aided Dresden firefighters. “We had quite a crew,” Lilley said.
