Topsham has a special election scheduled for Jan. 15 to elect a selectman to fill the remainder of an unexpired term soon to be vacated by a board member recently elected to the state Legislature.
Nomination papers are currently available in the town clerk’s office for the position, with the term expiring Nov. 5, 2013. Papers must be returned by Dec. 28.
On Nov. 6, Selectman Andrew Mason was elected to House District 60 and said after his win he would resign from the board.
Town Manager Cornell Knight said Mason’s resignation from the board will be on the Dec. 6 agenda.
Mason has one year remaining on a three-year term.
