PORTLAND – Police arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of arson after a house fire Saturday afternoon.

Police said Joshua Welch was arrested shortly after the fire was reported at 66 Veranda St. around 3 p.m. Welch has no known address, they said.

Officials said they didn’t know how badly the structure was damaged, but they didn’t believe the damage was significant.
