FREEPORT – Freeport’s Travis Libsack, 16, a member of Boy Scout Troop 58 of Cumberland and North Yarmouth, has achieved the organization’s highest rank – Eagle Scout.

Libsack recently completed the requirements to attain the rank. He has been involved in scouting since he was 6 years old, starting with Cub Scout Pack 63 in Portland before joining Troop 58.

His Eagle Scout project was to rebuild a 10-foot-by-12-foot shed on the grounds of Freeport Middle School. He stripped it down to the studs and rebuilt it, adding a new roof, electrical upgrades, new windows and a large deck.

The shed is now being used as a snack shack to raise funds for Freeport Middle School’s sports and other community programs. Libsack contributed 127 hours of service to his project; other members of Troop 58 and residents of Freeport volunteered an additional 509 hours of their time toward the rebuilding of this shed.

Libsack received support for his project from Ray Grogan, the principal of Freeport Middle School, and Bill Davenport of Port Builders in Freeport. Maine Wood Treaters of Mechanic Falls donated the wood for the deck.

In honor of Libsack achieving Eagle Scout rank, an Eagle Scout Court of Honor has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the North Yarmouth Congregational Church. Members of the community are welcome to attend.
