Town Office closed

The Durham Town Office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23 in observance of Thanksgiving.

The town office is regularly open Mondays from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The office is closed for lunch from noon-1 p.m. and all day on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, call 353-2561.

Quilt raffle under way

The queen-sized “Morning Star” quilt, made and generously donated (for the historical society’s fundraiser) by Ginger and Harry Arnold, is still on display at the Town Office and the Durham Historical Society’s quilt raffle will continue throughout November. The drawing will be made toward the end of the month in time for the holiday season. Tickets are available from Historical Society members and at the Town Office during business hours.

The Durham Code Enforcement Officer will be available to the public at the Town Office on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 5-7 p.m. The Durham Public Works Feasibility Study Committee will meet on Monday, Nov. 19, from 6-8 p.m. in the Town Office. The Durham selectmen will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 6:30 p.m. the Durham Town Office. The Durham selectmen will be meeting in Pownal with the Pownal selectmen on Monday, Nov. 26, at 6 p.m. for a quarterly review of the joint road commissioner project.

Parade, 5K volunteers sought

Planning for the 2013 Durham Memorial Day Parade and AMVETS 5K is now under way. The committee is looking for several volunteers. For more information, contact Joe Howe at 353-9110 or by email to joetia@hotmail.com.

Ecumenical Thanksgiving service

On Sunday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. there will be an all-faiths Thanksgiving service at the First Congregational Church of Durham UCC at 773 Royalsborough Road. Non-perishable foods will be accepted. There will also be a free-will offering to benefit the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Food Pantry. Light refreshments to follow the service.

Craft fair Saturday

The Durham Community School PTA will host its second annual craft/business fair on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Durham Community School gym. Admission is free.

The PTA will be serving coffee, breakfast pastries, baked goods, homemade soups and breads and a hot dog lunch. The cost of an 8-foot table is $20 and the PTA is also looking for donations of baked goods and homemade soup to be served at the fair. The event will benefit the school’s student enrichment programs and field trips.

Gun raffle starting

Durham Fire and Rescue, in conjunction with Cabela’s, is selling tickets for its annual gun raffle. Only 3,000 tickets will be sold at $20 each and the odds of winning are 1 in 100.

One winning name will be drawn daily through Nov. 30. The winner will have choice of gun or a Cabela’s gift certificate. Tickets can be purchased from Durham Fire & Rescue at the station. Call 353-2473 for more information. Tickets are also available at the Durham Get & Go.

Town seeking board members

The Durham planning and appeals boards are seeking new members to be appointed. There are also openings on the Scholarship and Eureka committees. If interested, stop by the Durham Town Office and fill out a committee application, or for more information, call 353-2561, ext. 10.

Community Center ?for rent

The Durham Eureka Community Center is available to rent for small groups of 50 or less. The building is great for showers, birthday gatherings and meetings. Lisbon Area Christian Outreach

The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach’s food pantry and clothing bank hours are: Wednesday: 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Thursday: 10 a.m. to noon and Saturday: 8 a.m.-10 a.m. LACO serves the communities of Bowdoin, Durham and Lisbon. The website is www.lacopantry.org.

The physical address for food and clothing is the Marion T. Morse Community Center, enter from the Berry Avenue side behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church. The clothing bank cannot accept furniture, appliances, etc., as they do not have the room to store them. For more, call Debbie at 240-1637.
