SOUTH BERWICK — Quarterback Cameron Roll scored two touchdowns and threw for another as Marshwood High edged York 21-20 to win the Western Class B football championship Saturday afternoon.

Roll’s second touchdown of the game, a 12-yard run with 7:43 left in the fourth quarter, and Brett Gerry’s two-point conversion rush, gave the Hawks a 21-14 lead.

York came back to score on a 2-yard run by quarterback Ross Hogan. But the Wildcats were penalized for an illegal formation on Ben Lawlor’s successful PAT kick. They had only 10 men on the field and only six on the line.

Lawlor’s subsequent kick hit the goal post and was no good with 2:29 left, leaving Marshwood ahead by a point.

The Hawks then were given possession on the ensuing on-side kick when a York player touched the ball before it went 10 yards. And then they ran out the clock.

Marshwood will play Eastern champ Mt. Blue in the state championship game next Saturday at Portland’s Fitzpatrick Stadium.

It will be the Hawks’ first appearance in a state championship game since 1989.
