WELLS (AP) — Drivers who spot a house in the middle of Route 1 in Wells won’t be seeing things.
The road is scheduled to be closed for a couple hours today as the historic Storer Garrison House is moved just a couple hundred feet.
The Portland Press Herald reports that a section of Route 1 will be closed from 9 a.m. until at least 11 a.m. Central Maine Power Co., Fair- Point, Time Warner and Maine Fiber will lower lines during the move, which may cause brief interruptions in service.
The Storer Garrison House was built in 1816 with timbers from the garrison that protected residents during a three-day attack in 1692.
The house is being moved to the new owners property.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
