We’re in the midst of the busiest week of the year, it seems. Beset by a presidential election, holiday preparations, the flight of the snowbirds and special veterans events – we’ll try to keep you informed, no matter which activity you’re involved with. We’ll start with Veterans Day – how many readers know what the significance is of the “11th hour, 11th day of the 11th month?”

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12, in observance of the Veterans Day Holiday. The Food Mobile will be at the pantry on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Dress warmly and bring your own bags. It is anticipated that there will be a significant increase in the number of families seeking help with the holidays. If you would like to help with Thanksgiving or Christmas, please contact Madeline at 892-1931. If you would like to help with families for Christmas you may also drop off a gift or gift card (for teens) to Ron Eby at Windham Automotive. Ron will be doing a toy drive again this year as he has in the past to make the holidays the best possible for Windham families. Old Fashioned Christmas Fair

On Nov. 10-11, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Old Fashioned Christmas Fair, Windham Historical Society, 234 Windham Center Road. Hand-made decorations, wreaths, ornaments, sweet treats, linens, wooden items, jewelry and unique home de?cor items. Proceeds benefit the SocietyOs programs.

Nov. 17, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Holiday Fair, Windham Gorham Rod & Gun Club, 8 Towpath Road, Gorham (off Route 202). Crafts, jellies and jams, relishes, baskets, hand knit items, stationery; light lunch. Profits to food pantries in Windham and Gorham.

Church Fair

The Holiday Fair at Windham Hill UCC, 140 Windham Center Road, will be Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All-natural wreaths, cemetery baskets and birch log candleholders are featured along with baked goods and candy, cookbooks, attic treasures, gift baskets and lunch. Craft Fair

The Windham-Raymond Athletic Boosters are holding its 20th Annual Holiday Craft Fair at Windham High School on Nov. 10-11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Christmas Fair

North Windham Union Church UCC will hold a Christmas Fair on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wreaths, crafts, a silent auction, baked goods, kids activities, lobster rolls and soups for lunch. The Thrift Shop is open during the Fair.

VFW meets

VFW Post 10643 will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Windham Veterans Center. Supper starts at 5 p.m. and a business meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Windham Fire Department and Police Department will present a safety program. The Veterans Center is located on Veterans Memorial Drive, which exits off Route 302 next to Friendly’s.

Book & Bake Sale

The library will hold a Book & Bake Sale on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A preview sale will be held Friday, Nov. 15, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. $10 for each person entering the building. At the moment, the library is overwhelmed with book donations and asks that donors wait until December to bring in donated books. The sale prices are $1 for adult hardcover books, 50 cents for adult paperbacks, $1 for audio/visual items, children’s books will be 25 cents and children’s hardcover chapter books, 50 cents. Senior Center

Lakes Region Senior Center 40 Acorn St., Little Falls School, Gorham, will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12, in recognition of Veterans Day. Events through Thursday include needlecraft, card games, Pickleball and Bingo on Thursday. On Nov. 19, a boiled dinner will be held, open to the public for $4, followed by a pie sale. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and this is a drop-in center, so plan to stop by. The coffee pot is always on.

Harvest supper

Highland Lake Grange No. 87, corner of Hardy Road and Route 302, will be serving a harvest supper on Saturday, Nov. 10. Seating begins at 4:45 p.m. The menu includes shepherd’s pie, lasagna, meatloaf, chop suey, and more plus beverages, dessert and bread. $8 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under. A bake sale will also be held featuring pies, candy, fudge, whoopee pies and other sweets.

Pirates and Bruins

Sebago Lake Rotary Club invites you to join them for Rotary Night at the Pirates. Come see the Portland Pirates take on the Providence Bruins on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. Sebago Lake Rotary is selling tickets at reduced cost. Face value of tickets is $18. You can buy them for $15. Section C, Rows 18-24. Great seats for a night out with friends, family, and co-workers. It is also Kent Hulst Bobblehead Night (the first 1,000 fans to enter the turnstiles will receive the first bobblehead in a series of four) and a toy drive presented by The Portland Press Herald. Bring in a non-opened toy to any game between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and receive two tickets to a future Pirates game. Toys will be donated to Toys for Tots and Bruce Roberts Toy Fund. Benefit Barn Dance

On Saturday, Nov. 17, a benefit barn dance will be held from 7-11 p.m. at Spring Meadows in Gray. Tickets are $14/individual, $24/couple. The DJ duo of Flamin Raymon’ and Sizzlin Suzzin will entertain with dance lessons and more. A silent auction, 50/50 raffle and photo booth will be featured. This event is to benefit Susan Zemla, of Windham, recently diagnosed with scleroderma. Guys and Dolls

Get your tickets now for the Windham High School’s fall musical production of “Guys and Dolls,” at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9, 10, 16 and 17 at the Performing Arts Center at the high school. Performances at 4 p.m. on Nov. 11 and 18 are also scheduled. Call 893-1742 for reservations. Box office opens 45 minutes before curtain. This Broadway-style musical is directed by Rob Juergens, music director Richard Nickerson, choreography by Venesa Beyland. Tickets are $7 for seniors and children, $11 for adults.

Help for veterans, dependents

Veterans Service Officer Phyllis D’Orsay will be at the Windham Veterans Center on Wednesday morning, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. until noon, to assist veterans, widows of veterans and dependents with questions about benefits and other information. If you have questions of a military nature, stop in and get some answers. No appointment is needed.

Nolan, Moore honored

Realtors Tim Nolan and Susan Moore were recently recognized for placing in the Better Homes & Gardens, The Masiello Group’s Top 20 Realtors for sales and marketing performance during the month of September.

The recognition is earned each month by the top 20 agents out of 500-plus agents that service Northern New England for the company.
