The University of Southern Maine says enrollment for fall 2012 shows the school “has stabilized its numbers and has met financial targets.”
Total enrollment of all parttime and full-time USM students is 9,385, an increase of 0.9 percent from the 9,301 enrolled in fall 2011.
Susan Campbell, USM’s chief student success officer, said the fall 2012 numbers are due to more targeted efforts aimed at recruiting new students and retaining existing students; a more aggressive marketing campaign utilizing digital media; more competitive room and board rates; and the infusion of $1 million in reallocated university funds into scholarships.
First-year transfer students are up 20 percent, and the total number of credit hours, a measure of courses taken and tuition income generated, also is on the increase, from 94,139 in 2011 to 95,650 this fall, the school said in a news release.
