Drug arrests in Scarborough
On Oct. 30, Scarborough police working in conjunction with the Old Orchard Beach Police Department and DEA arrested two women on multiple drug charges.
Arrested were Tania Margate, 39, of Old Orchard Beach, and Star-Asia Kelley, 23, of Brooklyn, N.Y., at a Scarborough gas station following a lengthy investigation by law enforcement. Subsequent to the arrests, officers from all three agencies executed a state search warrant at a nearby motel in Scarborough where Kelley was staying.
During a search of the motel room, officers located approximately 12 grams of crack cocaine packaged for sale with an approximate street value of $2,000, according to a department press release. Officers also located approximately five grams of heroin with an approximate street value of $5,000. Also seized was evidence of drug trafficking and approximately $2,000 in cash from the room.
Police said Margate was also found to be in possession of six pieces of crack cocaine at the time of her arrest. She was also charged with operating after suspension and failure to appear on an outstanding arrest warrant. Kelley was arrested on two counts of felony drug trafficking (heroin and crack cocaine) and one count of felony possession of heroin. She was also found to be in possession of four bags of heroin while being processed at the Cumberland County Jail.
Free art class ?for veterans
The Creative Child and Adult Arts Program, located at 152 U.S. Route 1 in Scarborough, is offering a special invitation to all artists this Veterans Day, Nov. 12, to attend either a free morning or afternoon session of creative art making in their new studio.
Both a.m. and p.m. programs will offer an introduction to strong color foundations, which will then be applied to an autumn landscape, mixed medium project that will encourage artists to look to nature for their inspirations. As with all The Creative Child’s Programming, these classes will include art history and a wrap up with a positive critique of the artist’s work.
