Mainers approved at least three bond questions Tuesday, with one too close to call today in unofficial results.

Question 2 was losing narrowly, 50.6 percent to 49.3 percent this morning, with 75 percent of polls reporting.

Q2: Schools

That question asked Maine voters to approve an $11.3 million bond issue to provide funds for capital to build a diagnostic facility for the University of Maine System; for capital improvements and equipment at the Maine Community College System; and for capital improvements and equipment at the Maine Maritime Academy.

Mainers apparently approved of the other bonds. With three-quarters of the vote counted:

Q3: Land bond

Question 3 was winning 61 percent to 39 percent. This is a $5 million bond issue to purchase land and conservation easements statewide. The bond will be matched by at least $5 million in private and public contributions.

Q4: Infrastructure

Question 4 was winning 73 percent to 27 percent. This is a $51.5 million bond issue for improvements to highways and bridges, local roads, airports and port facilities, for rail access, transit buses and the LifeFlight Foundation.

It will make the state eligible for at least $105 million in federal and other matching funds.

Q5: Water systems

Question 5 was winning 64 percent to 36 percent.

This is a $7.9 million bond issue for revolving loan funds for drinking water systems and for waste water treatment facilities, which will make the state eligible to secure $39.6 million in federal grants.
