PORTLAND — A section of Preble Street, near the Hannaford Supermarket, had to be closed to traffic Tuesday night, after a pedestrian was struck by a car, Portland Police said.

Lt. James Sweatt said a pedestrian, who was in a crosswalk at the time, was hit by a car around 5:30 p.m.

The pedestrian, whose name was unavailable, complained of bruises and soreness, but did not suffer a serious injury, Sweatt said.

Sweatt said the driver was apologetic but is expected to be issued a summons for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
