HAMPDEN – Kelsi Obi allowed only one goal during the penalty-kick tiebreaker, and Amber Loon, Noell Acord and Bri Snedeker converted their kicks as Richmond retained its Class D girls’ soccer state championship Saturday with a 2-1 win over Washburn at Hampden Academy.

Obi made a diving stop to help Richmond (16-0-1) win the tiebreaker, 3-1. Catelyn Coulombe was the only player to score for Washburn during penalty kicks.

Obi finished with 10 saves. Washburn keeper Rayah Saucier stopped 12 shots and made one save during PKs.

Richmond opened the scoring with 21:10 left in the first half when Acord assisted on a goal by Sadie Gosse.

The Beavers (15-2-1) got the equalizer with 12:12 left in regulation when Mackenzie Worcester scored on a header off an assist from Carmen Bragg.

It was the third consecutive state championship for the Bobcats, who outscored their opponents, 104-5.

Washburn was in its first state final. Worcester and Bragg were among seven Beaver players seeking two fall championships after helping Washburn win Class C cross country a week earlier.

CLASS D BOYS

BANGOR CHRISTIAN 1, GREENVILLE 0: Ben Bragg scored on a shot from 15 yards off an assist from Rem Poulin 6:17 into the second half as the Patriots (18-0) captured their fourth straight state championship with a win over the Lakers (10-8) in the Class D final at Hampden Academy.

Caleb Peary finished with eight saves to record the shutout for Bangor Christian, which was the top seed in Eastern Maine. The Patriots finished the season with 15 consecutive shutouts.

Greenville keeper Corey Henderson made 11 saves.

Bangor Christian held a 19-14 advantage in shots over the Lakers, who were the fourth seed in Western Class D. Greenville has never won a boys’ soccer state championship; the Lakers also lost to Bangor Christian in last year’s state final.

Over the past four seasons, Bangor Christian has a combined record of 68-3-1.
