Westbrook residents will be asked again whether they want to appoint, rather than elect, their city clerk.
Voters rejected the measure in 2007. They will reconsider it at the polls on Tuesday, along with proposed revisions to the city’s charter.
In 2010, voters narrowly approved forming a commission to review the city’s charter. Later that year, six people were elected and three were appointed by the City Council to serve on the panel.
The commission is now recommending 10 changes to the charter, along with a couple of housekeeping matters, such as creating a table of contents.
One proposed change would eliminate the party affiliation of City Council and School Committee candidates on the ballot.
Another revision would adjust the terms for all of the city’s elected seats to three years. Currently, the mayor and city councilors serve two-year terms and school board members serve four-year terms.
Also, elections for council seats would be staggered. Now, all councilors and the mayor are up for re-election at the same time.
Voters will decide whether to approve all of the recommended revisions or leave the charter as it is.
