An Arnold Road resident arrived home Tuesday afternoon to find two men burglarizing her house.
According to police reports, the homeowner, whose name was not released, had been out of her home for less than an hour. She returned shortly after 3 p.m. to find two men in her living room. Her arrival spooked the burglars, who fled into the woods behind the home. Five patrol officers and a detective responded to the call.
“We had a lot of officers in the area trying to contain the scene,” said Freeport Police Lt. Susan Nourse. The police sealed the road, performed vehicle checks and canvassed the area looking for witnesses.
A tracking dog was brought in by Cumberland County Sheriff ’s Department, but failed to locate the suspects’ trail. They were described as 20 to 30 years of age and wearing hooded sweatshirts. One man was carrying a backpack, the homeowner said.
Neighbors told police they saw a black sports utility vehicle leaving the area about the same time the call was made to police.
