BIDDEFORD – The University of New England opened a two-goal lead early in the second half Wednesday for a 3-2 field hockey win over Endicott College.
The loss was Endicott’s first in the Commonwealth Coast Conference this season.
Casey Clark broke a 1-1 halftime tie by scoring in the 41st minute for the Nor’easters (8-6, 5-2 CCC). Suzy Libby added her first career goal six minutes later for a 3-1 advantage.
Senior Hannah Thornberg scored her second goal of the game with 7:33 left in the second for Endicott (10-4, 6-1).
Hayley LaPointe scored in the first half for UNE.
TUFTS 5, BATES 0: Junior Chelsea Yogerst scored two of her three goals in the first six minutes to put Tufts (11-1, 7-1 NESCAC) on track to defeat Bates (4-8, 1-7) at Medford, Mass.
Missy Karo and Emily Cannon also scored for Tufts.
The Jumbos had a 22-5 advantage in shots and used two keepers to complete the shutout. Brianna Keenan had two saves in the first half and was relieved by Katie Stuntzin in the second half.
For the Bobcats, Becca Otley stopped three in the first half and Christina Vega swept away four in the second.
SOUTHERN MAINE 4, WORCESTER STATE 0: Sophomore forward Peyton Dostie scored three first-half goals to lead the University of Southern Maine (6-11, 3-6 Little East) in a shutout over Worcester State (2-13, 0-9) at Worcester, Mass.
Dostie leads the Huskies with 12 goals.
Freshman back Allison Ward also scored for the Huskies.
Kayla Kennedy made four saves for the win. Rebecca Mullen had six saves for Worcester.
MEN’S SOCCER
BATES 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Senior John Murphy figured in all five goals as Bates (3-7-2) downed the University of Southern Maine (4-11) at Gorham.
Murphy had three goals and two assists.
Mazen Aljari scored for the Huskies with an assist from Ahmed Bin Afif.
Sam Polito was credited with 10 saves for the Bobcats. Korey Mulherin made one save in the first half, while Chad O’Brien finished the game for the Huskies with six saves.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1, WENTWORTH 1: Wentworth’s Taylor Rosenblum scored with 1:08 left in regulation to help secure a tie with the University of New England at Biddeford. Rosenblum scored the goal with a header off a cross from Adam Rhodes.
The Nor’easters are 6-8-1, while Wentworth dropped to 1-10-3.
UNE took the lead 3:07 into the match when Will Bushey scored on a free kick from 25 yards out. Wentworth keeper Cody Gibb held off the Nor’easters the rest of the way with seven saves. UNE keeper Aidan McParland also finished with seven stops.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1, WENTWORTH 0: Katy Marshall scored in the 38th minute to give the University of New England (7-9) a win over Wentworth (5-10-1) at Biddeford.
Ellie Arsenualt set up Marshall with a push pass and Marshall unleashed a high shot from 30 yards out for the win.
Wentworth goalie Jess Gardner had six saves. Samantha Guyette had three saves in the shutout.
BASKETBALL
BIG EAST: The Big East and Madison Square Garden agreed to a multiyear extension of their contract that will keep the conference’s postseason tournament in New York City.
Madison Square Garden has been the home of the Big East tournament since 1983.
FOOTBALL
IDAHO STATE: Coach Mike Kramer is being investigated by police and the university for allegedly shoving a player to the ground two weeks ago.
