PORTLAND – Thornton Academy completed its first perfect regular season in school history and won the SMAA championship for the first time since 1994, using an Amanda Arnold goal and assist to beat Portland 3-0 in a schoolgirl soccer game Tuesday night.
Arnold opened the scoring with 15:02 left in the first half, tapping in a cross from Haley DaGraca. Eight minutes later Arnold passed the deflection of a Courtney O’Brien shot to Katherine Gillespie to put into an open net.
Allie Coburn completed the scoring on a penalty kick with 6:37 left.
Emily Richard made five saves for Thornton (14-0). Mashale Nabi had seven saves and Kagan Schmidt three for the Bulldogs (2-10-2).
FALMOUTH 1, YORK 0: Caitlin Bucksbaum scored in the 14th minute and Falmouth (10-2-2) went on to beat the Wildcats (7-6-1) at York.
Megan Miller earned an assist and Caroline Lucas made 10 saves for Falmouth.
Maddie Patten stopped six shots for York.
BRUNSWICK 5, LEWISTON 0: Anna Cowan scored four goals as the Dragons (14-0) downed Lewiston (3-9-2) at Brunswick.
Rachel Moroney also scored and Kassidy Scarponi had two assists.
Haley Murano stopped three shots for Brunswick. Lex Jimenez had eight saves for the Blue Devils.
BIDDEFORD 1, KENNEBUNK 0: Carissa Gelinas scored with just under five minutes to play in the first half as Biddeford (5-8-1) slipped past the Rams (2-11-1) at Kennebunk.
Gelinas reached the deflection of a corner kick and hit a shot into the upper left corner.
Olivia Curtis had eight saves for the Tigers. Kyra Schwarzman made 10 for the Rams.
OCEANSIDE 4, LINCOLN ACADEMY 2: Makenna Brooks broke a 2-2 tie with 10:49 left, and Caitlyn Raye added a final goal with 37 seconds to go as the Mariners rallied for three second-half goals to beat Lincoln Academy (0-11-3) at Rockland.
Kennadi Grover had two saves for Oceanside; and Laura Otterbein made eight for Lincoln.
WINDHAM 2, BONNY EAGLE 1: Ciera Berthiaume and Jenny Soucy scored first-half goals as Windham (13-0-1) opened a 2-0 lead against the Scots (1-13) at Standish.
Sam Campobasso countered in the second half for Bonny Eagle.
Kate Kneeland finished with five saves for Windham. Kelsey Parkin made eight saves for Bonny Eagle.
WESTBROOK 4, NOBLE 0: Marissa Martel scored the first of her two goals early in the game, and the Blue Blazes (4-10) went on to beat Noble (1-13) at Westbrook.
Sophie Manning added a goal and an assist, and Jenessa Corbett also scored. Samantha Russell had six saves for the shutout. Jessica Bickford had 15 saves for the Knights.
MARSHWOOD 3, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Jillian Gori and Megan McLean scored in the first half, and Lydia St. Pierre in the second as the Hawks (6-7-1) beat South Portland (5-9) at South Berwick.
MT. ARARAT 3, EDWARD LITTLE 0: Celia Ouellette scored the goals as Mt. Ararat (9-5) beat the Red Eddies (7-7) at Topsham.
The Eagles outshot Edward Little, 12-3. Michelle Pelletier and Lauren Williams combined for the shutout.
CAMDEN HILLS 1, MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE 0: Emma Gutheinz scored with 9:26 left as the Windjammers (12-2) beat the Huskies (3-11) at Pittsfield.
GORHAM 3, CHEVERUS 1: Kali St. Germain had two goals and Erin Smith also scored for the Rams (10-4) against the Stags (9-5) at Portland.
St. Germain scored twice in the first half and Smith made it 3-1 on a free kick in the second. Darby Rawcliffe converted a penalty kick in the second half for Cheverus.
DEERING 1, SANFORD 1: Alexis Elowitch scored early in the first half for the Rams (9-4-1) and Morgan Fogg tied it early in the second for the Spartans (10-3-1) at Portland.
Elowitch put in a corner kick by Samantha Sivovlos after nine minutes.
Fogg put in a feed from Hannah Kallis seven minutes into the second.
Maddie Mazjanis made four saves for Deering. Kellie Tovey stopped eight shots for Sanford.
SCARBOROUGH 2, MASSABESIC 0: Jessica Meader scored and the Red Storm (12-1-1) added an own goal against the Mustangs (7-7) at Waterboro.
Sydney Martin stopped five shots for the shutout. Gemma Lundrigan made 21 saves for the Mustangs.
