The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office worked quickly to apprehend a Bridgton man suspected of robbing the Rite Aid Pharmacy at about 7:20 p.m. Monday night.
Police say Anthony G. Mattia, 26, of Wayside Drive in Bridgton, entered the store located on Route 302, produced a note to the pharmacist on duty demanding prescription narcotics, and then fled the store with the prescription narcotics.
Less than 10 minutes later Deputy Raymond McIntire stopped the suspect’s vehicle on Route 11 in Casco.
Subsequent investigation by the CCSO Criminal Investigation Division and patrol deputies recovered clothing worn during the robbery as well as items stolen from the pharmacy.
Mattia was arrested and has been charged with robbery, falsifying physical evidence and violation of conditions of release since he was out on bail on a charge of receiving stolen property (a firearm).
There was no weapon displayed during the incident and no injury was sustained by anyone involved, police said.
