CASTINE – Mazen Aljari scored on an assist from Michael Daniel in the 107th minute Wednesday to lift Southern Maine to a 1-0 men’s soccer victory in double overtime over Maine Maritime.

Aljari collected a pass from Daniel 5 yards from the top of the box, worked past a defender and put a shot past the keeper into the low left corner of the net.

Southern Maine keeper Jeremy Turner finished with four saves, all of which were made in the second overtime.

USM is 3-8. The Mariners are 5-5.

COLBY 4, THOMAS 0: Jonathon Sommer scored a pair of goals to lead the visiting Mules (3-2) to a win over the Terriers (6-2-2) at Waterville.

Nick Aubin and Andrew Meisel added a goal apiece for Colby, which led 2-0 at halftime.

CURRY 2, UNE 1: Nicholas Lawless snapped a 1-1 tie in the 66th minute to give the Colonels (8-4, 2-2 Commonwealth Coast) a win over the Nor’easters (5-6, 1-3) at Milton, Mass.

Curry’s Eric Guglielmello and UNE’s Matthew Christie scored first-half goals.

Aidan McParland made 16 saves for the Nor’easters.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

UNE 2, CURRY 0: Katy Marshall scored in each half as the Nor’easters (4-8, 2-2 Commonwealth Coast) downed the Colonels (5-5-1, 1-3) at Milton, Mass.

Marshall opened the scoring in the 31st minute and added an insurance goal with just over 10 minutes left.

Samantha Guyette made a career-high 12 saves to record her first career shutout.

BATES 2, HUSSON 0: Krista Prouty and Jaimie Cappucci scored to lead the Bobcats (2-5-1) past the Eagles (4-9) at Bangor.

Anabel Schmelz needed just one save for the shutout. Jessica Poulin stopped 13 shots for Husson.

BOWDOIN 5, FARMINGTON 0: Kiersten Turner scored a pair of goals, and Audrey Phillips added a goal and an assist as the Polar Bears (7-1) scored three goals during a 13-minute span in the second half to pull away from the Beavers (6-4-1) at Brunswick.

Turner opened the scoring for Bowdoin 8:22 into the game on the first of two assists for Molly Popolizio.

Amanda Kinneston and Casey Blossom also scored.

ALBERTUS MAGNUS 2, ST. JOSEPH’S 0: Acacla Nelson scored in the 20th minute and Shelley Mirmina added a goal 18 minutes later to lead the Falcons (8-2-2, 4-1-2 GNAC) over the Monks (4-4-1, 1-4-1) at Standish.

Jaci Lorenzen finished with seven saves for the Monks, who were outshot 17-4.

FIELD HOCKEY

HUSSON 3, ST. JOSEPH’S 2: Sabrina Vaillancourt scored her second goal of the game 11:56 into the second overtime as the Eagles (7-6, 5-0 North Atlantic Conference) twice rallied from one-goal deficits to defeat the Monks (6-4, 3-2) at Bangor.

Carley Denis gave St. Joseph’s a 1-0 lead when she scored on an assist from Rachelle Messuri 4:51 into the game. Husson’s Mariah Arno tied it 13 minutes later.

St. Joseph’s regained the lead 8:01 into the second half when Messuri again assisted on a goal by Denis. Vaillancourt scored the equalizer with 3:51 left in regulation.

Husson’s Maicee Gustin and Taylor Allison of St. Joseph’s finished with 13 saves apiece.

FOOTBALL

GEORGIA: Michael Bennett, the No. 5 Bulldogs’ leading receiver, tore up his right knee in practice and is out for the year, Coach Mark Richt announced.

Bennett injured the anterior cruciate ligament on the last play of Tuesday’s practice. He will undergo reconstructive surgery.

FLORIDA: Linebacker Jelani Jenkins is expected to play Saturday against No. 4 LSU after missing the last two games.

Jenkins broke his right thumb Sept. 8 at Texas A&M and missed games against Tennessee and Kentucky.
