Frosty’s Donuts is going south. In a good way.
The renowned Brunswick coffee-and-doughnuts shop will open a new location at 740 Broadway in South Portland at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Housed in the former home of Freaky Bean Coffee Company, the new store differs from the company’s Freeport and Brunswick locations: It has a drive-through window.
It also was retrofitted with a kitchen so doughnuts can be baked in-house and not be ferried from one location to the other.
Frosty’s owners Nels Omdal and Shelby St. Andre partnered with friends Haj and Keyla Carr, who live in Cape Elizabeth and own True- Line Publishing, to establish the Broadway location.
The Carrs, Omdal and St. Andre have been friends for years, according to Marcia Giancola, a TrueLine spokeswoman.
Haj Carr graduated from Bowdoin College in the 1990s and was familiar with the Frosty’s phenomenon, Giancola said.
