BALTIMORE – Charlene Achille notched her first collegiate goal just before the half to secure a 1-1 tie for the University of Maine against Maryland-Baltimore County in a women’s soccer game Sunday.
Lauren Swant made four saves in goal for Maine (5-4-1, 1-1-1 America East) against the Retrievers (0-2-1).
Maine will be home Thursday against Hartford.
BATES 0, TUFTS 0: Bates and Tufts played tied despite two overtimes at Medford, Mass. Kristin Wright had seven saves for the Bobcats (1-5-1, 1-4-1 NESCAC) and Anabel Schmelz stopped seven shots for the Jumbos (1-5-2, 0-5-1).
FIELD HOCKEY
UMASS 4, MAINE 2: The Minutemen (5-6) had four players score to snap the Black Bears’ (7-5) six-game winning streak at Amherst, Mass.
Nicole Sevey had a goal and an assist, and Holly Stewart also scored for Maine.
COLBY 7, HUSSON 1: Erin Maguire scored the first three goals of the game to power the Mules (4-4) past the Eagles (6-6) at Waterville.
Megan Fortier added two goals, aand Lauren Zion and Caitlin Guiney rounded out the scoring for Colby.
MEN’S SOCCER
TUFTS 4, BATES 0: Gus Santos had a goal and an assist as the Jumbos (5-1-2, 3-1-2 NESCAC) shut out the Bobcats (2-5-1, 0-5-1) at Medford, Mass.
Sam Polito made five saves for the Bobcats, who were outshot, 17-5.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
MAINE 4, DALHOUSIE 0: Katy Massey scored 2:45 into the game to spark the Black Bears to a victory over the Tigers in an exhibition at Orono.
Shawna Lesperance and Abbey Cook added first-period goals, and Jilliam Langtry scored in the second period. Brianne Kilgour had a pair of assists for Maine, which outshot Dalhousie, 35-9.
