FARMINGTON – Jordan Whitney tossed three touchdown passes in the first half to lead Mt. Blue to a 42-0 victory against Oceanside in an Eastern Class B football game Friday night at Kemp Field.

Whitney completed 12 of 18 passes for 208 yards.

“I had plenty of time to throw because of the great blocking by our backs, Bradley Jackson, Chad Luker and Calan Lucas,” Whitney said. “They gave me plenty of time to find receivers.”

Throwing out of Mt. Blue’s double wide slot formation, Whitney tossed a 49-yard pass to Luker on the Cougars’ first play. Anthony Franchetti converted the point after to give the Cougars (5-0) a 7-0 lead with 9:34 left in the first quarter.

Two plays later the Cougars scored again when Nick Hyde returned an interception 58 yards.

Mt. Blue took over again seconds later when Luker recovered a fumble on the kickoff at the Mariners’ 25. Calen Lucas ran 19 yards to the Oceanside 6 and Whitney hit Luker with a 6-yard TD pass to give Mt. Blue a 21-0 lead after fewer than five minutes.

Oceanside (2-3) had trouble moving the ball, finishing with 87 yards. Sam Meklin finished 1 of 8 for minus-5 yards and two interceptions.

“One of our big goals this week was to swarm to the ball better than we have been,” Mt. Blue Coach Gary Parlin said. “We had real good efforts from Dustin Richards, Zak Kendall, Chad Luker and Bradley Jackson.”

In the middle two quarters the Mariners managed to gain 18 yards on the ground.
