Hidden Valley Nature Center is holding an open house to show off its trails, huts and bog walk in conjunction with the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend. Hidden Valley director Gary Hayward will lead a walk through the working forest, while Maine Master Naturalists give lessons on tree identification. Kids activities are also planned. No cost. Pemaquid Paddlers

This week’s destination for the Pemaquid Paddlers is Damariscotta Lake. Take Route 1 from Damariscotta to Vannah Road and go 1.1 miles to the put-in, located just past the railroad tracks. Park along the side of the road. The ramp is near the center of the causeway. Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak and wear a life jacket. Call 677-6380.

‘Storms of Denali’ talk

The Maine Outdoor Adventure Club’s monthly meeting will feature hiker and author Nicholas O’Connell, who will discuss his recent book about Denali. O’Connell’s first novel, “The Storms of Denali: The Nature of Risk in Life and in Climbing,” covers the dangers inherent in high-altitude ascents.
