The dog, a 1 1/2-year-old male beagle being sheltered for adoption, has been missing from an outdoor kennel.
“Right now it looks like some people interested in adopting Shadow took him out for a walk and just didn’t bring him back,” said Aggie Purinton, shelter manager.
Purinton said Shadow was being treated for Lyme disease, which, if left untreated, can be debilitating for dogs.
Police are looking into possible suspects, and the shelter is asking for help from anyone with information or who can assist in the search.
Shadow is a 35-pound black, brown and white beagle, who has an identifying microchip with the ID number 958121012869327.
“We won’t ask questions if Shadow is returned,” Purinton said.
She encourages anyone with information to call Brunswick police at 725-5521 or the shelter at 773-7377.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
