A second four-vehicle crash in two weeks along Route 196 near the Topsham Fair Mall snarled traffic for a short time Tuesday morning.

This time, no one was injured in the chain-reaction crash, reported at 7:44 a.m. on Route 196 near the Interstate 295 off-ramp intersection.

According to Topsham police, the crash was triggered when a 17-year-old driver from Bowdoinham, driving a 2001 Nissan car east on Route 196, looked away from the road to talk to a passenger and struck a 2007 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle in the rear, which was driven by 30- year-old Amy Tefft of Lisbon Falls.

The impact pushed the SUV forward into a 2009 Ford passenger car driven by 22-yearold Lacey Beasley of Richmond, which was pushed into a 2005 Jeep driven by Brian Ingalls, 23, of Durham.

Topsham Police Chief Christopher Lewis said there were no injuries as a result of the crash and no charges filed. Only the car that started the chain-reaction fender-bender was towed; the other three vehicles drove away. Traffic was tied up for a brief period of time.
