Harvest Dance at Wolfe’s Neck Farm

The 16th annual Harvest Dance will be held in the historic Mallett Barn at Wolfe’s Neck Farm on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 6-11 p.m. The Mallett Brothers Band will begin performing at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.wolfesneckfarm.org for $15, or $27 with food. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $20, or $34 with food. You must be 21 or older to attend.

Blessing of the animals in Yarmouth

The 10th annual Blessing of the Animals, in honor of St. Francis’ Feast will be held outside of Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 9 a.m. The event is sponsored by the parish’s Church & Family Life Commission, which includes St. Jude Church of Freeport.

All pets and pet lovers, as well as other various animals, are invited to attend the prayer service and blessing with or without an animal friend present. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the rectory at 847-6890.

Spaghetti dinner ?and auction

The Freeport Democrats will be holding a spaghetti dinner and auction on Friday, Oct. 5, at the Harraseeket Grange Hall at 13 Elm St. in Freeport. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. Admission is a $5 minimum donation and children are welcome.

Barbecue dinner ?and auction Oct. 20

The South Freeport Congregational Church is sponsoring a barbecue dinner and auction on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 6-10 p.m. at the Freeport Community Center. The night will start with live bluegrass music and a cash bar and continues with a barbecue dinner provided by Riverfront Barbeque and Grille of Augusta, followed by both a live and a silent auction.

Auction items include vacation retreats, an afternoon yacht cruise on Casco Bay, a handmade quilt or a lunch on a Casco Bay island. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Call 865-4012 to reserve tickets.

‘Chowdah challenge’ coming up

Taste the best clam and seafood chowders in Maine at the 2012 Freeport Community Services’ Chowdah Challenge to benefit Freeport Community Services programs. The challenge takes place on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 11:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. at L.L. Bean Discovery Park. Sample chowders donated by local restaurants along with homemade pies and ice cream for $10. Freeport Players ?show continues

The Freeport Players will present a showcase of work entirely of Maine playwrights. The show is a collection of short works about relationships called “Can U Rel8?” The list of Maine playwrights includes John Cariani (“Almost, Maine” and “Last Gas”), Ray Dinsmore, Linda Britt, Cullen McGough, EB Coughlin and Elizabeth Guffey. “Can U Rel8?” will be performed through Sept. 30, with shows on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., at the Freeport Performing Arts Center on Holbrook Street.

The Freeport Community Library has resumed Saturday hours from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The Freeport Community Library offers its visitors wireless Internet access, story time for toddlers, monthly art exhibits, inter-library loans, Freeport history and genealogy research. Regular library hours are: Mondays and Wednesdays 11:30 a.m.-8 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; Fridays 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

If you have ever asked, “What’s My Next Book?” the Freeport Library may have answers for you on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. The class will highlight offline and online resources such as NoveList, the Bestsellers and Awards page on the library website, Nancy Pearl’s Book Lust series and GoodReads .
