HARPSWELL
Voters will decide whether to continue electing the town treasurer or to make the position one appointed by selectmen.
Either way, the position will remain a three-year term.
Board members on Thursday approved a warrant article asking voters to make the decision on Nov. 6, as well as choose by write-in ballot a moderator for the day’s special town meeting.
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
A public hearing on the finalized municipal ballot is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the town office.
Selectmen also approved acceptance of Lower Road as a town way. Municipal crews already do regular maintenance on the road, Town Administrator Terri Sawyer said, which qualifies it to be taken over as a public way.
A request for proposals was finalized for parking improvements at Devil’s Back Trail Area on Orr’s Island, and will be distributed to local contractors. Specifications include removal of ledge to create an additional parking area, relocation of existing boulders, construction of a timber guardrail and maintenance of existing drainage. Proposals are due by 4:30 p.m., Oct. 9.
