PORTLAND – Dillon Russo scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 5-yard scramble with 1:30 left Friday night as unbeaten Scarborough survived an upset attempt and came away with a 28-21 victory against Deering in a Western Class A football game.

The Red Storm (4-0) closed with 15 unanswered points to finally put away the Rams (0-4).

Kenny Sweet took the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to give Deering a 7-0 lead. Scarborough tied it later in the quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run by Dan LeClair, who also scored from 5 yards in the second quarter.

Sweet added another touchdown on a 2-yard run late in the first quarter and also scored on a 35-yard run in the third quarter that put Deering ahead 21-13.

Scarborough came back to tie it on a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown by Ben Greenberg followed by a 2-point conversion rush by LeClair.

LeClair finished with 129 yards on 20 carries, and Russo completed 11 of 16 passes for 177 yards and also ran for 43 yards on 11 carries for the Red Storm.

NOBLE 14, BIDDEFORD 13: Luis Flores ran for two touchdowns as the Knights (3-1) edged the Tigers (1-3) at Biddeford.

Flores scored on a 30-yard run in the first quarter and caught a conversion pass from Ethan Beaulier.

He scored the winning touchdown on a 55-yard run in the third quarter.

SANFORD 48, GORHAM 20: Alex Shain took the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, the first of his five touchdowns for the Spartans (2-2), who took a 28-6 halftime lead and cruised past the Rams (0-4) at Gorham.

Shane scored on runs of 1, 2 and 3 yards, and added a second kickoff return for a touchdown, for 84 yards following a second-quarter touchdown by Gorham.

KENNEBUNK 40, SOUTH PORTLAND 6: Will Dumas scored three touchdowns, and Nick Emmons threw nine passes for 127 yards and a touchdown as the Rams (2-2) handled the Red Riots (0-4) at Kennebunk.

Dumas had touchdown runs of 5, 3 and 1 yard.

CAPE ELIZABETH 30, FALMOUTH 14: Christian Lavallee rushed 20 times for 112 yards and three touchdowns to help Cape Elizabeth (2-2) rally from a 14-0 first-quarter deficit to beat the Yachtsmen (0-4) at Falmouth.

Lavallee scored on a pair of 2-yard runs in the second quarter to help the Capers even it. Noah Wolfinger gave them the lead with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Murphy as time expired in the first half.

LAWRENCE 53, MT. ARARAT 6: Jake Doolan scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and added one in the third as the Bulldogs (4-0) cruised past the Eagles (0-4) at Topsham.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 21, POLAND 18: Joe Gildard scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to help rally the Seagulls (3-1) from an 18-7 halftime deficit against the Knights (0-4) at Old Orchard Beach.

Gildard pulled Old Orchard Beach within five with a 52-yard interception return, then caught a 9-yard scoring pass from Bryan Roberts with 1:30 left in the quarter to give the Seagulls the lead.

WELLS 50, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0: Dante Fanning and Gavin Snapp scored two touchdowns apiece to lead the Warriors (3-1) past the Phoenix (1-3) at Livermore Falls.
