1962

Peter Profenno buys Cardamone’s Bar at 920 Main St. for $1,500, and reopens it on Sept. 17 as Profenno’s, initially as a bar.

1964

Profenno buys the building at 920 Main St. for $20,000.

1970

Profenno expands the offerings to include food, starting with an all-you-can-eat buffet, then moving gradually to a full menu.

1984

Profenno sells the business and the building to a new owner, who begins paying for the property in installments. Profenno goes into the used car business, first working for local dealerships, then opening his own, Magic Motors, at the corner of Warren Avenue and Riverside Street.

1991

Amid flagging business, the new owner stops making payments, forcing the bank to foreclose. Profenno discovers he has the option to take the property back rather than see the bank put it up for auction. He closes the car business and takes over the eatery once again.

2004

An early morning fire on Sept. 24 burns Profenno’s to the ground. Fire investigators determine it was arson, set from the outside of the building, but the case remains unsolved.

2005

Profenno buys the former Hebert’s Market at 934 Main St. and the barn behind it for more than $200,000, then spends $100,000 remodeling it into the current Profenno’s Restaurant.

2006

Profenno still owns the property at 920 Main St., now redesignated by the city as 918 Main St. He spends $500,000 to rebuild and reopen the building, and still rents it out to a number of businesses.

2012

Profenno’s to celebrate its 50th anniversary Sept. 22 with a party at the restaurant.

The former Hebert’s Market was purchased by Peter Profenno in 2005, and remodeled into the current Profenno’s Restaurant.
