WOOLWICH
If picking apples on a lovely September day and then turning some of those apples into cider sounds fun, the Woolwich-Wiscasset Baptist Church has it all planned out.
As part of its children’s ministry, the church invites people to board its bus and enjoy the ride to County Fair Farm in Jefferson for apple-picking, a hay ride and to pet some animals on Sept. 15. Afterward, at around noon, everyone will return to the Baptist Church at 22 Fellowship Drive to make cider in a press donated by Dave Cole of Waldoboro.
The bus will leave the church for Jefferson at 9 a.m.
“Neighbors can invite neighbors and kids can invite kids,” said Pastor Greg Hodgdon. “It’s also a good opportunity for a group. Anyone can come.”
The apple-picking and cider-making day are new this year.
“We wanted to promote our youth ministry,” the pastor said. “There’s no signup, and no fees.”
Those interested should know that the farm will charge 79 cents a pound for the apples.
When everyone returns to the church, members of the children’s ministry will show people how to cut up the apples, and put them in the press.
“It’s fun to watch,” Hodgdon said. “They can have some to drink, or to take home.”
Hodgdon emphasized the church’s youth ministry is a group effort, and not the work of just a few people.
