OLD ORCHARD BEACH (AP) — Police in Old Orchard Beach say they’ve determined that a former bookkeeper at the town library embezzled $140,000 over six years.
Police Chief Dana Kelley said detectives are still investigating the case, but that they have enough evidence to estimate how much was taken and determine it was embezzled.
The bookkeeper accused of taking the money, Linda Jenkins, died of cancer this spring soon after bank officials alerted Libby Memorial Library officials of discrepancies in library bank accounts.
