Coach: Lynne Harrison

Last year’s record: 6-8-1, lost in Western Maine preliminary round

Key players: Sydney Hancock (Sr.-forward), Kayla Gray (Sr.-midfield), Kasey Huntress (Sr.-defense), Sarah Hancock (So.-goalie), CeCe Hancock (Fr.-forward)

Key games: Sept. 18 vs. York, Sept. 28 at Gray-New Gloucester, Oct. 9 at Poland

Season outlook: The Lakers return plenty of talent from last year’s team that made the state tournament, including all-state performers Huntress and Sydney Hancock, and should have plenty of depth. The Hancock duo should score plenty of goals up front, while the senior defensive trio of Huntress, Ali Kepler, and Hannah Perkins will have to work hard to protect first-year goalie Sarah Hancock. Harrison said meshing in three to four inexperienced but skilled younger players with her senior core, as well as Hancock’s development in goal, will be key in keeping them competitive with the big teams such as Greely, Yarmouth, Falmouth and York. The Lakers got off to a good start with a 2-1 over Yarmouth on Tuesday, with CeCe Hancock scoring both goals in her first start at the high school level. Next up is a trip to rivals Freeport on Saturday.

Last year’s record: 0-8

Key players: Kamen Scott (Sr.-OL/DL), Mike Triglione (Sr.-QB/LB), Jarid Pierce (Sr.-OL/DL), Derek Douglas (Sr.-C/OL), Kyle Stevens (Sr.-RB/LB), David Cosgrove (Sr.-OL/DL), Cody Gibbons (Jr.-RB/LB), Quinn Piland (So.-QB/WR/DB)?

Key games: Sept. 21 vs. Marshwood, Oct. 5 vs. Spruce Mountain Oct. 19 vs. Gray-New Gloucester

Season outlook: 2012 will be a transition year for the Lakers as the team is learning a new offense, defense and operating procedures. The team returns just five starters from last year’s squad, and the team’s roster numbers are this year are pretty low, with a significant amount coming from the freshman class. Jahna said he was impressed with the team’s high tempo in preseason practices and their improving attention to detail, as well his veterans’ poise and character. The team should be able to get off the snide and win a few games this season, but the playoffs will still be a big ask. Defense was the problem as the Lakers fell 40-29 in their opener against Fryeburg Academy and they’ll look to rebound this Friday when they head to Greely.
